Desalination

Desalination is a process by which salt is removed from sea or brackish water. Desalination plants are a type of industrial infrastructure intended for desalination, generally of seawater or salt lakes, to obtain drinking water.

One of the most successful methods to desalinate water is through seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO). The desalination industry uses chemical or physical processes to reduce or recover salt concentrations from water supplies intended for consumption or industry. Removing salt from source water makes it usable for human consumption and reduces salt-induced corrosion of any metal in contact with treated water.

Efficient desalination plants use various methods and advanced technology to remove impurities and make the water more valid for use. Many industries now rely on desalination plants as the need for fresh, clean water increases in the face of a scarcity of clean water.

Our expertise

Asimer Group, as a specialist in state-of-the-art technology, one of our great challenges is to add value to the pumps and valves that are intended for the desalination industry.

The most important valves with application in desalination are mainly plug valves and triple eccentric valves.

Desalination valve

Plug valves are ¼ turn. They control circulation by means of a cylindrical or conical plug that has a hole in the center, which can be moved from open to closed position by turning 90°.

High pressure plug valves are designed for SWRO (Seawater Reverse Osmosis) desalination plants.

Its use is determined mainly for applications of Isolation (On / Off), CIP (clean in place) and Regulation valves, requiring high pressure, where the material of the pipe and the valve is generally Super Duplex.

The triple eccentric butterfly valve ensures tightness in reverse osmosis plants in seawater.

In the reverse osmosis (RO) process, a key set of valves is installed in the high pressure area between the membranes and the high pressure (HP) pumps where the pressure can reach up to 80 bar and the chlorine content in the water is extremely high. Under these conditions, super austenitic stainless steels, such as Duplex type 5A (with PREN >42), are generally used to deal with corrosion.

The eccentric valve is designed to the highest standards as they represent the ultimate solution for a large number of piping, process and instrumentation engineers around the world.
